The NESCAC is brimming with talented student-athletes and the "Friday Feature" is a way for fans to get to know them throughout the academic year. The conference introduces Trinity's Michelle Tregalia, a softball student-athlete who is researching metacognition for her senior thesis.

Why did you choose to attend Trinity?
I knew I wanted to attend Trinity early on in my college search. It offered me the opportunity to continue my softball career while also providing a great liberal arts education. It is also close to home which was another important factor I took into consideration.
Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I chose to be a Division III student-athlete because I knew I wasn't ready to give up my softball career just yet. Playing at the Division III level allows me to continue to play softball while also allowing me to pursue other interests in academics and extracurricular activities without getting overloaded. I wanted a college experience that included softball without my sport being the focal point.
What extracurricular activities do you participate in?
I am a mentor for a pre-orientation program for first-year women called Venture Trinity, the secretary for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and I have a job on campus working as a coordinator for the Writing Center.
What has been the greatest part of your college experience so far?
Being part of the softball team has definitely been the greatest part of my college experience so far. It has not only taught me valuable lessons, including time management skills and how to be a leader on and off the field, but I have also developed a close bond with my team and found my best friends by playing softball at Trinity.
What has been your favorite class outside of your major? Why?
My favorite class outside of my psychology major was "Organizing by Neighborhood" because it integrated a traditional classroom experience with an internship opportunity. A requirement for the class was having a semester-long internship that included a community learning component. I ended up interning at the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and had a fantastic experience. I learned a lot from my internship, but I also enjoyed our class discussions where I got to hear about my classmates' experiences as well.
Who is your favorite professor? Why?
My favorite professor is David Reuman. I first took a class with him sophomore year called "Research Design and Analysis." I immediately enjoyed his enthusiasm for the subject and his effort to make personal connections with his students. I ended up becoming a Teaching Assistant for Professor Reuman in that same class the following year, so I was lucky enough to continue working with and learning from him. Fortunately, I am able to continue my relationship with Professor Reuman this year as he is one of my thesis advisors. The thing I admire most about Professor Reuman is his ability to make time for his students. No matter how busy he is, I know he will always take the time to meet with me about anything. He is supportive and reassuring which is extremely important coming from a professor and advisor.
What internships/research projects have you participated in? What did you learn from these experiences?
Throughout my time at Trinity I have participated in many internships and research projects. My sophomore year I interned at the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. My junior year I did independent research on Hispanic media in the greater Hartford area. This year I interned at the Hartford History Center. All of these experiences taught me how to work in a professional environment while collaborating with others. They have all given me real-world experience which prepared me in learning how to deal with different types of people in order to achieve my goals.
What has been the most interesting part of your major so far?
As a psychology major, this year I am doing a senior thesis on metacognition in 8th grade students. This has been the most interesting part of my major as I am getting the chance to design my own experiment, test participants, analyze data, and make conclusions based on results. Although it is a lot of work, it will be rewarding once the final product is complete and I can say I produced this major project independently.
What is your favorite place on your campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is definitely the quad. There is nothing better than hanging out with friends on a nice day out on the quad while taking pictures in front of the chapel.
