Amherst's Steinhorn Named CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-American

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior second-baseman Max Steinhorn has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Baseball Team, voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Steinhorn, a member of the Division III Second Team, is the 34th  Academic All-America selection in Amherst College history, and the third member of the baseball team to earn the honor.

With a .365 batting average, Steinhorn led the NESCAC Champions to an NCAA Tournament appearance. He also led the club with 16 stolen bases, 35 runs scored and a conference-best 57 hits.

A history major with a 3.90 grade point average, Steinhorn was previously named Academic All-NESCAC and Google Cloud Academic All-District, as well as NESCAC All-Conference Second Team.

Hitting .328 for his career, Steinhorn finished his four years at Amherst with 110 runs, 162 hits and 51 stolen bases.

Steinhorn's academic pursuits have included his Senior Honors Thesis, entitled Tapping Into a Political Force: George Wallace, the North, and the 1968 Election. He also spent a semester at King's College in London, interned with Crosscut Strategies in Washington, D.C., and participated in both Amherst LEADs and the Amherst LEADs Captains Symposium.

The first Mammoth to be selected Academic All-America since 2015, Steinhorn joins Bob Cook '13 and Neal Allar '08, who both were named to the Third Team, as Amherst Academic All-America baseball players. 

Twenty three of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III baseball teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 10 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.95. 

The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the program in 2017-18.
